BUSINESS MAN PASSES 1 —.■ Troy D. Tucker Troy D. Tucker, 44, co-owner of Tryon Shoe Hospital, died on Wednesday morning- at 12:30 a. m. following several years of declin ing health. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 at Mc Farland Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry 0. Hearn and the Rev. Charles L. McGavern officiat ing. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Landrum, S. C. Mr. Tucker was a native of Landrum and had made his home in Tryon for the past 17 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Chamber of Com merce. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Myrtle Bruce; three brothers, Clarence C. Tuck er, Harvey Tucker, of Landrum and Hovey Tucker of Augusta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. N. N. Stepp, Mrs. Kelly Wright and Mrs. R. B. Surratt, all of Landrum. Pallbearers will be R. C. Bur nett, Matt O’ShitVds, G. D, Cook sey, Ralph Farthing, W. M. Bal lew and Eugene Jones. Honorary pallbearers: C. D Ftevens, Dr. J. A. W. Woody, John Moore, i. C. Hum. 43. ‘‘Panther Wins 3rd Round In Fight Against Ouster” The Spartanburg Hearld of Wednesday morning announced in three column headlines that Sher iff Loyd B. Panther had won the third round of his fight against the petition to have him ousted as sheriff of Polk County. The sheriff won the first round when Judge J. Will Pless refused to removed him from office at a hearing in Marion. The second and third rounds were won Mon day afternoon when the Grand Jury did not return a true bill against him and Judge Q. K. Nimocks Jr. struck from the ne tition the statements concerning Panther’s arrest in Landrum for drunken driving and also the statement that the sheriff was unable to buy liquor at the Tryon ABC stbre on account of his arrest in Tryon for drunkeness. The judge ruled that even though fines were paid by the sheriff in these cases it does not brand the defendant as guilty of the charges. Miss Mary Sanders has gone to Charlotte where she will teach in the fifth grade at the new Barringer School. Dr. and Mrs. Archie Ellis and sons, Richard and John of Colum bia, S. C., are visiting Mrs. Ellis’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Avant. Mr. and Mrs. Julian H. Baird (Jean Beatson) of Monroe, La., are visiting Miss Virginia Bland. Mrs. Baird is a former Tryon girl.
